More than two thousand years ago the artistry of acrobatics, magicians and jugglers began in the Hebei region of ancient China. The Chinese Acrobats of Hebei evolved from that legacy of gravity-defying acrobatics combined with the discipline of martial arts. Trained from childhood in acrobatics, this multi-talented troupe ranges in age from 19 to 25; youthful marvels of what the human mind and body can accomplish. Filled with Chinese tradition, unique oriental props and outstanding acrobatics, the world-class gymnasts from Hebei perform such daring maneuvers as the Chinese Poles, one of the main traditional acrobatic numbers in China. A team of performers use their upper body strength to quickly climb, jump from one pole to another and swiftly descend down the poles. The traditional Lion Dance creates comical action using massive lion costumes, in which two acrobats roll, jump and vividly portray the lion's strength and playful side all in a tightly choreographed ballet of incredible acrobatic ability. The Lion Dance has been a consistent hit with audiences for thousands of years. Chair Stacking is performed by a solo master acrobat; chairs are stacked over two stories high as the acrobat balances precariously on top. The contortionists of Hebei will contort and flex their bodies into incredible positions while balancing delicate crystals for a feat of strength that looks almost impossible. Chinese Hat Juggling highlights a delightful team of performers in a fast paced, precise performance of juggling that has been handed down through the ages and is totally unique to American audiences. Some of the other outstanding performances include Spinning Plates, Hoop Diving, Diablo (also called Chinese Yo Yo), Aerial Dance, Hand Balance and the physically powerful performance of Martial Arts. The Chinese Acrobats of Hebei features a lush musical score, exciting show production, stunning costumes and props that combine to create a kaleidoscope of color, drama and skill on any size stage.
